Wendy Williams has been declared mentally competent after a dramatic plea for help at her assisted living facility, igniting fresh debate over her guardianship battle.
Sources told TMZ that a psychiatrist at Lenox Hill Hospital examined Williams after she was escorted from the facility by ambulance on Monday. The doctor reportedly found her to be “alert and oriented,” stating that her mental capacity remains intact. The former daytime TV host allegedly scored a perfect 10 out of 10 on the psychiatric evaluation.
Guardianship Battle Intensifies
The test results will reportedly be submitted to a judge overseeing Williams’ case as she fights to regain control of her affairs. In early 2024, she was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD), a condition she has repeatedly denied having. The psychiatric exam did not re-evaluate her for FTD but focused on her current cognitive abilities.
Williams, 60, was seen pleading with paparazzi for help before being taken to the hospital. She wrote a desperate note that read, “Help! Wendy!!” and tossed it from her fifth-story window. A wellness check was conducted at around 11:15 a.m. before police officers escorted her into an ambulance.
Her legal guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, has been managing Williams’ affairs since 2022. However, in February, Williams signed an affidavit requesting the court remove Morrissey, claiming she had regained the capacity to make her own decisions. Morrissey responded by pushing for further medical evaluations, including neurological and psychological tests.
Public Struggles and Family Concerns
Since stepping away from “The Wendy Williams Show” in 2021, Williams has faced multiple health and financial struggles. She has been spotted in public on rare occasions, including riding a scooter at a Florida airport in February and attending her son Kevin Hunter Jr.’s college graduation in December 2024.
Williams’ attorney has argued that the former TV host is being unfairly held under guardianship despite her improved condition. Supporters have questioned whether she was misdiagnosed or if her situation has changed since her initial health concerns.
Meanwhile, Morrissey has insisted that Williams requires ongoing medical supervision, citing concerns over her financial and personal well-being. The upcoming court review of Williams’ psychiatric evaluation could determine whether she regains independence or remains under guardianship.
For now, Williams continues to fight for control over her life, with her legal team preparing to challenge the court’s previous rulings. The judge’s decision in the coming weeks will shape the next chapter of her battle for autonomy.
