Tony Hawk recently posted a touching tribute to Kurt Cobain, longing for the late Nirvana star to meet their grandson, Ronin Walker Cobain Hawk. The skateboard icon’s son, Riley Hawk, and Cobain’s daughter, Frances Bean Cobain, welcomed the baby in September 2024. Hawk shared his grief and joy on Instagram, reflecting on family ties.
Heartfelt Words for Kurt
Hawk uploaded a 1991 Nirvana concert ticket stub, calling the show a rare and powerful experience. He said it transformed him like few live moments could. Later, he added that he wishes Cobain could see Frances’ growth, meet Riley, and hold Ronin.
Frances, 32, and Riley, Hawk’s son, tied the knot in October 2023. Their son, Ronin, arrived less than a year later, linking the Hawk and Cobain legacies. Hawk’s post blended pride in his family with sorrow over Cobain’s absence.
Cobain’s Tragic End
Kurt Cobain took his own life in April 1994 at 27, leaving behind toddler Frances and wife Courtney Love. An electrician found his body three days later in his Seattle home’s greenhouse, with a shotgun and a suicide note nearby. The coroner reported high levels of heroin and Valium in his system.
Before his death, Cobain struggled, overdosing in Rome in March and fleeing rehab in Los Angeles on April 1. Friends and family tried to reach him, but he slipped away. His passing shocked the music world, ending Nirvana’s reign.
Frances, now a mother, was too young to know her dad. Hawk, 56, sees her strength and Riley’s care as a beautiful legacy. For him, Ronin’s birth stirs both celebration and a wish for what might have been.
