A decades-old rivalry between legendary singers Tom Jones and Engelbert Humperdinck has resurfaced after shocking allegations from television host and author Charlotte Laws. Laws, who dated Jones in the late 1970s, recently claimed that Humperdinck made an inappropriate advance toward her—though she insists their feud was not about her.

Laws Claims Humperdinck Made a Bold Move

Laws, now 64, revealed that she met Jones when she was 17 and he was 37. The two later became romantically involved for three years. However, during that time, she had a separate encounter with Humperdinck, whom she alleges made an inappropriate move while they were backstage at Las Vegas’ MGM Hotel in 1980.

She recalled that he patted the sofa, motioning for her to sit next to him. After a brief conversation, she said he attempted to kiss her. She told him she had strict morals, and he seemed to accept her response—until things took an unexpected turn.

According to Laws, Humperdinck suddenly stood up and dropped his pants.

Did the Allegations Fuel the Tom-Engelbert Feud?

Despite the uncomfortable experience, Laws insists that she was not the reason behind the bitter feud between the two singers, which has lasted for over six decades.

“Engelbert said he didn’t make a pass at me, but that’s just not true,” Laws said. “And I’m also not the cause of their dispute because that was at least a decade or two before I even came into the picture.”

Humperdinck has denied the incident ever took place, and Laws refuses to disclose the actual reason behind the long-standing rivalry, only saying it had nothing to do with women or the music industry.

She did, however, suggest that jealousy played a major role.

“Engelbert was jealous and angry. He felt like Tom was getting more attention, not only in his career but also from Gordon Mills,” she said, referring to the manager who worked with both singers.

While Tom Jones has remained silent about the feud over the years, Humperdinck has often expressed his frustration about their relationship.

Jones’ Former Lover Speaks Fondly of Their Romance

Laws, who had idolized Jones since she was nine years old, described their time together as “exciting” and referred to him as “the guy of my dreams.”

“Tom is a total sweetheart,” she said, reminiscing about their relationship.

Despite their personal history, Jones has remained tight-lipped about Humperdinck, choosing to avoid discussing their long-standing feud publicly.

While the real cause of their dispute remains a mystery, Laws’ latest revelation adds yet another layer to the decades-old drama between two of Britain’s most iconic singers.
