Russell Crowe has undergone a dramatic transformation, shedding more than 50 pounds after concerns about his health reportedly pushed him to take action. The 60-year-old Oscar-winning actor, known for his rugged roles in Gladiatorand A Beautiful Mind, had reportedly packed on weight after filming the 2020 thriller Unhinged—but instead of slimming down afterward, his weight continued to climb.
Now, sources tell RadarOnline.com that Crowe, who once tipped the scales at over 250 pounds, realized he needed to make drastic changes before it was too late.
Russell Crowe’s Wake-Up Call Sparks Major Lifestyle Overhaul
A source close to the star revealed that Crowe’s weight gain had reached a point where it was not just affecting his career but also putting his health at risk.
“He had to do something drastic unless he wanted to keep on gaining and putting his life in jeopardy,” the insider said.
The Gladiator star reportedly took a hard look at his lifestyle and began making significant changes, starting with his diet. He cut out bread, fatty foods, and late-night snacking, replacing them with healthier alternatives.
“Instead of fish and chips, he’s having a salad with lean protein and dressing on the side,” the source said. “He’s grabbing raw veggies when he gets the munchies – and no more late-night trips to the fridge.”
Experts Estimate Crowe Has Shed Over 50 Pounds
Top diet expert Dr. Stuart Fischer, who has not treated Crowe, estimated that the actor has lost over 50 pounds based on recent photos.
“He looks to be about 200 pounds now, and before he looked to be over 250 pounds,” said Fischer, author of The Park Avenue Diet.
Crowe’s commitment to a healthier lifestyle has reportedly also included cutting back on alcohol, a major factor in his previous weight gain.
“He cut way back on booze and bread, he’s saying no to fatty foods that were his big weakness, and is paying a lot more attention to labels and portion control,” the insider shared.
While Crowe has not publicly commented on his weight loss journey, sources say he is feeling better than he has in years.
“He admitted to friends that he’d crossed a dangerous line that was worrying even to him,” the source added.
