Jason Knauf, a former royal aide, opened up about Prince William and Prince Harry’s strained bond on 60 Minutes Australia. He called the public fallout hard and sad for those who know them. Knauf, once close to both, shared rare insight into the brothers’ ongoing divide.
Struggles Behind Palace Walls
Knauf served as communications secretary for William and Harry, plus their wives, until 2021. He said William keeps his feelings private despite the rift’s toll. For staff like him, watching the brothers drift apart stings deeply, he added.
The tension started in 2016 when William worried about Harry’s fast romance with Meghan Markle. Things boiled over in 2020 as Harry and Meghan quit royal duties. Since then, contact has been sparse, though they briefly united in 2022 after Queen Elizabeth’s death.
Shared Past, Uncertain Future
Knauf fondly recalled Harry and Meghan’s 2018 wedding as an amazing, magical time. He wished their California-based family—now with Archie and Lilibet—all the best. However, he dodged questions about Harry’s role when William becomes king.
He noted their past teamwork can’t be erased, echoing royal insiders on their legacy. Meanwhile, reports from People in 2024 show Harry’s calls and letters to William and King Charles going unanswered. The distance persists, frustrating hopes for peace.
Knauf also touched on William’s tough 2024, with Kate Middleton and King Charles facing cancer. He remembered William’s awful reaction to Kate’s diagnosis over the phone. Online rumors about her health only worsened the ordeal, he said.
