Robin Thicke reveals how his father, Alan Thicke, would have loved The Masked Singer, making his time on the show deeply emotional.
Robin Thicke Reflects on His Father’s Legacy
Robin Thicke believes his late father, Alan Thicke, would have been a huge fan of The Masked Singer. The Lost Without U singer recalled a bittersweet moment after wrapping Season 1, realizing the show could be a massive hit.
During an exclusive interview with Page Six, Thicke said he immediately thought of his father after the season finale. T-Pain had just won the competition, and legendary singer Gladys Knight had also been a contestant. The excitement made him feel certain the show would resonate with audiences.
He also imagined Alan participating as a contestant. His father had a great voice and even sang the theme song for Diff’rent Strokes. However, Thicke said he would have recognized him instantly because of his distinctive cadence.
Alan Thicke, best known for his role in Growing Pains, died from a heart attack in 2016 at age 69. Earlier this week, Robin paid tribute to his father on what would have been his 78th birthday, sharing a heartfelt Instagram post saying he missed him every day.
The Thicke Family’s Musical Tradition Continues
Music remains an important part of the Thicke family, as Robin’s eldest son, Julian Fuego, has inherited his passion for songwriting. The Blurred Lines singer said he and his 14-year-old love talking about music during their morning drives to school.
Julian, whom Robin shares with ex-wife Paula Patton, is also exploring other creative outlets like screenwriting and film studies. Thicke described his son as deeply connected to the arts and excited about performing on stage.
When asked whether he would encourage Julian to pursue a career in entertainment at a young age, Thicke said it depends on the individual. He emphasized that mental health and confidence are crucial before stepping into the industry.
“You want their mental health to be strong,” he explained. “You want them to have confidence and a community that supports them.”
Robin Thicke’s Perspective on Parenting and Career Choices
As a father of four, Thicke values balance between childhood and career ambitions. In addition to Julian, he shares three younger children—Mia Love, 6, Lola Alain, 5, and Luca Patrick, 3—with fiancée April Love Geary.
He stressed the importance of giving children time to enjoy their youth. “You get to be a kid for 18 years, and then you’re an adult for the rest of your life,” he said.
Laughing, he admitted he still feels like a kid at heart despite being a grownup.
Thicke has been a judge on The Masked Singer for 13 seasons, and the hit show continues to air Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
