Reba McEntire and Rex Linn may be celebrating five years together, but insiders claim marriage is off the table—at least for now. The country music legend, 69, has reportedly turned down multiple proposals from Linn, 68, due to lingering fears from her past failed marriages.
Despite their strong relationship, McEntire has clarified that she is content with how things are. In a recent interview, she expressed her feelings, saying she loves their relationship as it is and that if marriage ever becomes a conversation, they will discuss it then.
McEntire has been married twice, and both unions ended in painful breakups. Her first marriage, to rancher Charlie Battles, lasted from 1976 to 1987. She later wed her former manager, Narvel Blackstock, in 1989. That marriage lasted 26 years before Blackstock ended things in 2015, leaving McEntire devastated.
A source close to the situation shared that McEntire believed she and Blackstock would be together forever, and his decision to leave deeply affected her. The experience has reportedly made her hesitant to walk down the aisle again, fearing that marriage could change the dynamic of her current relationship with Linn.
“She has learned from her past that nothing lasts forever,” the source said. “She’s afraid that if they marry, it could ruin what they have now.”
Unlike McEntire, Linn has never been married. According to insiders, he believes they are meant to be together and wants to solidify their love with marriage. However, he respects McEntire’s hesitations, even if he doesn’t fully understand them.
A friend of the couple revealed that Linn operates from a different perspective since he has not gone through the same emotional hardships as McEntire. “He believes getting married would be the perfect way to seal their love story, but if he pushes too hard, Reba might run the other way,” the source added.
McEntire and Linn have maintained a strong connection, even blending their professional and personal lives. She reportedly insisted that Linn be cast in a key role on her NBC sitcom Happy’s Place to ensure they could spend more time together.
For now, the couple appears to be in a good place, with McEntire emphasizing that she is happy how things are. Whether marriage will ever be in the cards remains uncertain, but those close to the couple hope that Linn’s desire for a wedding won’t strain their relationship.
