Industry analyst Hideki Yasuda predicts that the Nintendo Switch 2 could disrupt traditional console launch strategies by reaching six million sales in its first quarter. Unlike most gaming giants that launch consoles during the holiday season to capitalize on consumer spending, Nintendo is rumored to release the Switch 2 in mid-2025.

Yasuda’s forecast is based on Nintendo’s production patterns, which indicate a significant stock buildup ahead of a major launch. The company has reportedly ramped up inventory earlier than usual, signaling preparations for the upcoming console. If the prediction is accurate, Switch 2 could defy industry norms and prove that consoles don’t need a holiday release to achieve blockbuster sales.

The rumored price of nearly $380 is slightly higher than the current Switch OLED, but Nintendo’s dedicated fanbase is expected to drive demand regardless of the increase.

How Switch 2 Sales Compare to PlayStation and Xbox Launches

If the Switch 2 reaches six million units sold within three months, it would outperform the launch of Sony’s PlayStation 5, which moved 4.5 million units in its first quarter in 2020. By comparison, the original Nintendo Switch debuted in March 2017 and sold 2.74 million units in its first quarter, followed by an additional 1.97 million in the next.
