Michelle Obama is calling out one of Barack Obama’s habits that has tested her patience over their 30-year marriage.

On the premiere episode of IMO, the podcast she co-hosts with her brother, Craig Robinson, the former first lady revealed that Barack’s lack of punctuality has been a long-standing issue in their relationship.

“Barack had to adjust to what being on time meant for me,” Michelle, 61, said, explaining that her husband often runs on what she calls “island time.”

Robinson, 62, joked that Barack’s laid-back approach to timekeeping likely stems from his Hawaiian upbringing.

Michelle recalled moments when they were supposed to leave the house at a certain time, only for Barack to suddenly get up, go to the bathroom, or start looking for his glasses.

“A 3 o’clock departure means you’ve done all that beforehand,” she said, adding that after three decades of marriage, he has improved but still had to make adjustments.

Michelle Addresses Family Dynamics and Daughters’ Habits

The Becoming author also mentioned how their daughters, Malia, 26, and Sasha, 23, have learned to follow her punctuality rules.

“They know how to snap to it,” Michelle said, explaining that whenever they have plans with her, they make sure to be early.

The lighthearted revelation comes at a time when the couple has been facing public speculation about the state of their marriage.

Divorce Rumors and Public Absences Fuel Speculation

For months, rumors have swirled that Michelle has become increasingly distant from Barack. A source told Page Six in January that she has “checked out” of her Washington, D.C., life and is frustrated with the political spotlight.

“They don’t pretend they have a perfect relationship,” the source said, dismissing any attempt to portray them as a “magical couple.”

Barack has also been spotted alone on multiple occasions, adding fuel to the speculation. In early January, Michelle skipped former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral, reportedly because she was on an extended vacation. Later that month, Barack attended a private dinner in Washington, D.C., without her.

Even during President Trump’s inauguration, Barack stood alone as the only former president without his spouse. Sources later claimed Michelle’s absence had more to do with Trump himself, saying she had no interest in being “phony” by attending.

Public Displays of Affection Attempt to Quell Rumors

Despite the speculation, the Obamas have publicly maintained a united front.

In January, Barack posted a heartfelt birthday tribute to Michelle, and on Valentine’s Day, he shared another loving message, writing that she still takes his breath away after 32 years together.

Michelle responded with her own message, calling Barack her “rock” and promising that he “always will be.”

While their social media posts attempt to shut down the divorce rumors, Michelle’s latest revelation about Barack’s tardiness hints that even one of America’s most admired couples isn’t immune to everyday marital frustrations.
