Jonathan Van Ness, best known for their role on Queer Eye, is turning heads with a dramatic 66-pound weight loss. The 37-year-old Netflix star has always been an advocate for self-love and personal transformation, and now they are sharing their own journey to better health.
On Feb. 23, Van Ness opened up about their progress, crediting a combination of lifestyle changes, fitness routines, and the use of GLP-1 medications—such as Ozempic and Mounjaro—for helping them reach their goal. While these diabetes drugs have gained popularity for weight loss, the hairstylist emphasized that their transformation was not solely due to medication.
“I have also made major other changes,” they revealed, listing diet modifications, reduced alcohol intake, and group Pilates as the most significant factors in their journey.
Pilates and Mindset Shift Were Game Changers
For Van Ness, a key part of the transformation came through movement. The Emmy-nominated host said that group Pilates played a pivotal role, both physically and mentally. The workout, which focuses on controlled movements for strength and flexibility, has completely changed their well-being.
“My mental health and overall feeling is a different universe since last year,” they shared, adding that group fitness has been the biggest shift in their routine. As a former cheerleader, Van Ness has always loved movement, but this structured approach made all the difference.
Their openness about the mental and emotional aspects of weight management is nothing new. In the past, Van Ness has spoken candidly about struggles with binge-eating disorder and body image. They acknowledged gaining and losing weight multiple times in the public eye, but this time, the approach has felt more sustainable.
Encouraging Others to Find Their Own Path
While proud of their progress, Van Ness made it clear that their journey is personal and not a one-size-fits-all solution. They encouraged others to take inspiration from what works for them and leave behind anything that doesn’t.
“I’m so proud of myself and want to share. Take what works for you and leave the rest,” they said.
The Queer Eye star’s honesty about using GLP-1 medications, alongside traditional methods like diet and exercise, adds to the ongoing conversation about sustainable weight loss. As more public figures open up about their experiences, Van Ness remains committed to promoting self-love, balance, and a healthy mindset.
