Once famed for her rich Southern comfort food, Paula Deen has changed drastically and dropped more than 100 pounds after learning she had diabetes. Friends and medical professionals, however, are already expressing worries about the weight loss of the 78-year-old celebrity chef perhaps going too far.

Close friends of Deen claim that her notable weight loss resulted from stress, combined with changes in her lifestyle and diabetic meds. Her current weight is significantly different from the 240-pound frame she used on her 5-foot-6 body; some close to her worry she might be stretching her boundaries.

One insider thinks Deen’s significant weight loss may be related to her difficulties restarting her career after her 2013 disgrace. Previously compelled to sell her enormous Savannah, Georgia residence for $8.4 million, she moved into a smaller house with her husband, Michael Groover.

After receiving a type 2 diabetes diagnosis, Deen first started shedding weight in 2009. Insiders, however, say her most notable weight loss came in the years following the uproar over her earlier racist comments, which resulted in the loss of big sponsorship deals and TV contracts.

A close friend of Deen thinks her emotional and professional toll helped her physically change. The source claims her weight loss was primarily related to stress as she worried her career was permanently over. She recovered some of her public reputation, but the road took years and had repercussions.

Diabetes drugs, which have become very well-known in Hollywood for their slimming properties, allegedly hastened Deen’s weight loss. Her weight is about 115 pounds, a far cry from her previous physique.

Some feel she has gone too far even with her success. Not treated by a weight reduction specialist, she feels her thin appearance points to her needing to concentrate on preserving a better balance.

Although many people find Deen’s weight loss impressive, some think she should pick some back-off to keep her health intact. Concerned about her increasingly delicate look, fans have flocked to social media, calling her to concentrate on strength rather than size.

Medical experts stress that keeping a good weight should be the first concern since significant weight loss in elderly persons can cause major medical problems.

Deen has not spoken recently about issues regarding her weight. Whether she will confront the increasing conjecture is still to be seen. Those close to her hope she finds a way to combine her lifestyle with her health.
