President Trump faces rare criticism from Fox News allies over his tariff policies, with insiders warning of economic chaos and a GOP rebellion ahead of critical elections.

Even Trump’s friends at Rupert Murdoch’s Fox News and Fox Business have been warning about the dangers of his trade war plans, but the president has refused to back down.

According to Media Matters for America senior fellow Matt Gertz, who spoke with Greg Sargent of The New Republic, many conservatives are concerned that the GOP will be tarnished by trade wars with the two biggest trading partners of the United States, as shown in the network’s recent coverage of Trump’s tariffs.

Sargent implied that even Fox believes that Trump does not have a genuine reason for the tariffs after playing an excerpt of Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo slicing through administration disinformation regarding the tariffs’ purpose at the beginning of the discussion.

In response, Gertz stated that her voice started to sound increasingly desperate at that point.

Gertz elaborated by saying that Trump supporter Maria Bartiromo is really staunch. Stating that she used to have a much stronger reputation as a business reporter, but with Trump’s ascension, she truly got on board with the cause and with him.

And then disclosed that she’s truly Trump’s favorite presenter to interview him about the economy; he conducted an interview with her earlier this month.

“You can almost sense that she’s tried to reach through the television and warn Trump that what he’s doing could backfire in a very big way, and that he should perhaps reconsider what he’s trying to do to the economy before that happens.”

Gertz then reminisced on the way many in the business community assumed that Trump wasn’t really serious when he pitched trade conflicts with Mexico and Canada while on the campaign trail last year, The Raw Story shares.

“They decided they preferred an insurrectionist to someone who might raise their taxes,” he said.

It appears to be backfiring on them now. This is a major issue for Bartiromo, who, as he remembers, was trying to reassure her viewers that it probably wouldn’t matter.
