Dolly Parton is stepping in to help longtime friend Billy Ray Cyrus after his disastrous performance at former President Donald Trump’s inaugural Liberty Ball. Sources close to the situation claim Parton, 79, is urging the country singer to seek professional help, fearing his well-being and relationships are spiraling out of control.
Billy Ray’s Troubling Onstage Breakdown
Cyrus, 63, attempted to perform Old Town Road following a video montage at the event. However, his voice was reportedly weak and strained, forcing him to ask the audience to sing along. The performance quickly went off the rails, with Cyrus appearing confused and blaming technical difficulties. He was eventually forced to exit the stage in humiliation.
Observers on social media were quick to point out that Cyrus seemed inebriated, raising concerns among his fans and family. His son, Trace Cyrus, 35, took to Instagram to share a heartfelt letter expressing his worries.
“It seems this world has beaten you down and it’s become obvious to everyone but you,” he wrote, adding that he and his sisters have been concerned for years but have been pushed away. “We are all hanging on to memories of the man we once knew and hoping for the day he returns.”
Dolly Steps In as Family Drama Escalates
According to insiders, Parton was deeply troubled by the performance and has been privately urging Cyrus to check into rehab.
“The performance alone was very alarming for Dolly,” said a source close to the singer. “She feels like it’s her duty to step in and help Billy Ray before it’s too late.”
Cyrus’ personal life has been in turmoil ever since his 2022 divorce from wife Tish Cyrus, whom he was married to for 28 years. His relationship with his children, including Miley Cyrus, became strained following the split. Matters worsened when his whirlwind marriage to Australian singer Firerose ended after just seven months in 2024.
“Dolly is beside herself over the turn Billy Ray’s life has taken,” the source continued. “She’s had a very serious conversation with him, letting him know that she’s there to help in any way possible.”
However, despite her efforts, Cyrus is reportedly refusing to acknowledge that he has a problem, insisting that rehab is unnecessary.
“All Dolly can do is be there for him and catch him when he falls,” the insider added.
