Donald Trump’s bold pledge to crush unelected bureaucrats ignited a digital firestorm Tuesday, with Elon Musk’s unelected sway stealing the show. The phrase “Did he just fire Elon?” trended as users gleefully shredded the hypocrisy, turning Trump’s speech into a viral punchline overnight.

On Tuesday night, at his first big address of his second term, Donald Trump declared: “The days of rule by unelected bureaucrats are over.” The statement sparked a mix of ridicule and confusion on social media, The Raw Story shares.

Several Democrats and political analysts raised the issue that Trump had Elon Musk in the room with him when he delivered the line to a joint session of Congress. Musk is the one Trump has given the authority to overhaul the federal government through his newly formed Department of Government Efficiency initiative.

On X, Representative Robin Kelly (D-IL) stated, “This is almost laughable.”

It goes on to say that Trump is responsible for allowing an unelected billionaire to bring corruption to the White House. An unelected bureaucrat who has to go is Elon Musk.

She was not alone in thinking this way; Democratic Washington state senator Pramila Jayapal recently questioned her X followers on the topic of dealing with Elon Musk, the unelected billionaire shadow president.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) tweeted, “I agree with Donald Trump that an unelected bureaucrat should be fired.” That was her only X post. Slashing it twice and recommending Elon Musk as a starting point.

A public health researcher named Eric Feigl-Ding went so far as to call tech billionaire and DOGE CEO Elon Musk “Unelected President Musk” in a post on Musk’s X social media platform.

According to a social media post by Robert Reich, a professor and former secretary of labor in the Clinton administration, all the Republicans who have long complained about “unelected bureaucrats” ruining the government are strangely silent while one of these officials wrecks the country.

“Did he just fire Elon?” On X, Brian J. Karem—a White House correspondent and political analyst—asked.

Elon Musk is an unelected bureaucrat, according to Sarah Longwell, a Republican Party pollster, and proprietor of TheBulwark, who made her harsh statement on X.

These comments were made by Trump on Tuesday, just before he threatened to fire any bureaucrat who resisted his desire to restore genuine democracy in the United States.
