Courtney Love has confirmed she is leaving the United States permanently, citing fear of former President Donald Trump’s second term. The singer, who has been living in London since 2019, announced her plans to officially become a British citizen within six months.
Love, 60, made the revelation at the Royal Geographical Society in London, where she expressed relief about no longer living in the U.S. The audience applauded her comments, which led her to further criticize the current administration.
Love Slams Trump’s Leadership Style
The musician described Trump’s presidency as “emperor-core,” comparing his leadership style to that of a monarch. She claimed that the current administration is filled with individuals flaunting extreme wealth, calling it “frightening” and “like cyanide now.”
Love has been vocal about her concerns regarding American politics for years. Even before relocating from Los Angeles to London, she predicted she would eventually settle in the U.K. In a 2017 interview, she said she had already chosen the neighborhood she wanted to live in, adding that she dreamed of being near the River Thames.
Celebrities Leaving the U.S. After Trump’s Reelection
Love is not the only public figure to relocate since Trump’s 2024 reelection victory. Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, reportedly left the country immediately, feeling “very disillusioned” by the election results.
Rosie O’Donnell also announced her departure, moving to Ireland with her 12-year-old non-binary child, Clay. O’Donnell stated that she would only consider returning when “all citizens have equal rights” in the U.S.
Love, who shares 32-year-old daughter Frances Bean Cobain with late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, made it clear that she has no plans to return. She emphasized her excitement about gaining British citizenship, joking that people “can’t get rid of me.”
While some celebrities have voiced their dissatisfaction with Trump’s return to office, Love is among the few who have followed through with their plans to leave the country entirely.
