Carrie Underwood is feeling the pressure as she steps into her highly anticipated role as a judge on ‘American Idol,’ but Kelly Clarkson is making sure she knows she is not alone.
According to an insider, Clarkson has been offering support and prayers to Underwood ahead of her big debut on March 9, dismissing any lingering rumors of rivalry between them.
“This whole thing about Kelly being jealous of Carrie or competitive with her couldn’t be further from the truth,” the source revealed. “She’s a huge fan and loves that Carrie has come full circle by returning to the show that launched her career.”
Kelly Clarkson’s support means everything to Carrie Underwood
Clarkson has openly praised Underwood’s new role, calling her an “awesome pick” to join judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan. The Grammy-winning singer expressed her excitement in a previous interview, saying that having a past winner in the judge’s seat is invaluable for contestants who aspire to achieve similar success.
“What better person to have than somebody who has won the show, gone through it all, and had such a huge career?” Clarkson remarked. “That’s invaluable.”
Clarkson believes Underwood’s first-hand experience will make her an honest and relatable judge, giving contestants hope that their dreams are within reach.
“Being able to look at someone who has done it and is now sitting at the judge’s table means everything,” she added.
Carrie Underwood appreciates the unexpected encouragement
Despite long-standing media speculation about a feud between the two, both singers have repeatedly dismissed the rumors, instead focusing on celebrating each other’s success.
Kelly once responded to rivalry claims by stating, “I think we’re both winning in life and pretty blessed—singers, mamas, CEOs.”
Underwood echoed that sentiment, saying she wished publications would stop pitting women against each other.
While the two are not close friends, sources say Clarkson took the initiative to reach out to Underwood before her ‘American Idol’ debut. She wanted to ensure the country star knew she had her full support.
“Kelly made it clear she’s there for Carrie if she needs anything. She would never offer unsolicited advice, but she is rooting for her to completely kill it,” the insider shared.
Meanwhile, Ryan Seacrest has reportedly also been a major supporter behind the scenes. He has encouraged the other judges to welcome Underwood warmly, believing she will be a great addition to the panel.
“Ryan wants Carrie to feel at home. He thinks she’ll be a huge inspiration for the contestants and hopes she stays beyond one season,” another source added.
Underwood, who is known for her perfectionism, has expressed anxiety about taking on the new role. However, Clarkson’s support has helped ease some of those nerves.
“Carrie was blown away by Kelly’s kindness and generosity,” the insider revealed. “She knows this is a big challenge, but having people like Kelly in her corner makes all the difference.”
