A potential $400 million contract for armored electric vehicles from the U.S. Department of State could soon be awarded to Tesla. Procurement forecasts indicate the deal, which could be finalized by late September, aims to bolster government security through advanced EVs.
Based on the agency’s Procurement Forecast for 2025, the United States Department of State is expected to award a contract for $400 million to Tesla for the acquisition of armored electric vehicles for government use, Teslarati shares.
It is stated in the paper that the big contract will be granted to the automobile manufacturer somewhere in the latter part of September. The first time it was included in the Procurement Forecast was in December, while former Vice President Joe Biden was still serving as the office of the President.
The State Department has defined the list as:
“The Department of State Forecast of Contract Opportunities includes projections of anticipated contract above the simplified acquisition threshold.”
This is just one of many contracts outlining the anticipated acquisition of armored vehicles in the next year. Armored BMW x5 and x7 SUVs, as well as electric and internal combustion engine (ICE) sedans, are in the works.
Both electric vehicle (EV) and internal combustion engine (ICE) armored sedan manufacturers are not yet included in the Procurement Forecast.
The document does not specify which electric vehicles from Tesla will be selected to be modified with body armor for the protection of senior government personnel. The Tesla Cybertruck immediately springs to mind, as the manufacturer had previously made every effort to ensure that it would be the most robust of its vehicles.
Apocalypse vehicles are the Cybertruck’s forte, according to CEO Elon Musk. Additionally, it has successfully undergone multiple rounds of gunfire testing, suggesting it could be an excellent option for transporting individuals of interest.
It was seen that the all-electric Cybertruck was a part of the Presidential Motorcade that Trump led near Starbase, Texas, following the successful election campaign that he ran in November. This indicates that Cybertruck already has deep ties to the Trump government.
Given his present position in the Department of Government Efficiency, it would appear that Musk’s involvement in government will now extend beyond that job.
Currently, the United States government will be using Tesla for the purpose of transporting some of its most important individuals, with the goal of ensuring their safety while they are on public transportation.
