Bruce Willis charmed his fans playing tough, heroic cops—from John Hatigan in Sin City to John McClane in Die Hard. However, on January 15, the American actor happily paid homage to real-life law enforcement working to keep Hollywood safe.
“Whenever he spotted a first responder, Bruce never missed the chance to offer a heartfelt handshake and a ‘thank you for your service.’ Yesterday was no different,” Emma Heming, his wife, wrote on Instagram alongside a series of snaps showing the legendary action star shaking hands with LAPD officers in a surprise outing.
However, Bruce’s life these days is said to be a little different. In 2022, his family announced his retirement from acting after he was diagnosed with aphasia, a neurological condition that robs a person of their ability to communicate. Within a year, it allegedly had progressed to a form of dementia.
“Though his spirit is still there, he’s not the same Bruce anymore. He’s being brave but life is also scary for him at times. The public doesn’t see the dark side of his illness. Fortunately, he has his family to support him though what they’ve come to accept as his final chapter,” an unnamed source told Life & Style Magazine.
Bruce has good days and bad days. As per the unnamed informant, a typical day for the Golden Globe winner is waking up, interacting with his daughters and wife, eating breakfast, and then enjoying time a tome. Maybe one of his buddies might come over.
“When I’m in LA, I go over every week. I really treasure the time that we all share,” Bruce previously divulged.
The informant added that the Paradise City actor would eat lunch and be driven around. It noted that Bruce was seen relaxing in the passenger seat of an SUV on January 22.
“He may not be living his life on movie sets anymore, but he still enjoys seeing his community,” the mole furthered.
His loved ones are making peace with the realities of Bruce’s health battle. Emma recently shared that daughters Evelyn and Mabel have “grown up with Bruce declining over the years. I’m not trying to shield them from it.” The former model even confirmed their daughters “know that Daddy’s not going to get better.”
Aside from Emma, his former wife, Demi Moore has also been helping Bruce. For starters, Demi and Bruce were married from 1987 to 2000 and share three daughters. Though they are no longer together, the Substance actress has always been involved in his care and well-being.
