Apple confirmed that its Apple Intelligence initiative will be delayed until 2026 as engineers confront unforeseen technical hurdles. The delay casts doubt on the company’s ability to lead in the competitive AI market, with investors growing increasingly nervous about future innovations. Officials promise efforts to accelerate progress, according to sources.

An Apple spokesperson states in an interview with Daring Fireball that it will take the company even longer to release the highly anticipated personalized Siri experience

At first, everyone thought Apple would include the new Siri features in iOS 18.4. However, we found out just before the developers got their hands on the beta build that the feature would actually be available in iOS 18.5.

We had hoped for the feature to launch in May, but according to WCCFTECH, the most recent reports indicate that it will be released “in the coming year.”

“Siri helps our users find what they need and get things done quickly, and in just the past six months, we’ve made Siri more conversational, introduced new features like type to Siri and product knowledge, and added an integration with ChatGPT. We’ve also been working on a more personalized Siri, giving it more awareness of your personal context, as well as the ability to take action for you within and across your apps. It’s going to take us longer than we thought to deliver on these features and we anticipate rolling them out in the coming year.”

If you are unfamiliar with the functionality, the personalized Siri experience will allow the digital assistant to understand personal context, have on-screen awareness, and feature deeper in-app integration. This is a major update for Siri that will make it more competitive with other voice assistants like Google Assistant and ChatGPT.

At this time, Apple is falling significantly behind in the battle to offer premium AI features, as firms like Samsung and Google have accomplished quite a bit. The company has also removed its ad from YouTube associated with the feature.

Apple has been collaborating with engineers and developers to prepare the new features for some time, but it is currently experiencing an artificial intelligence crisis, particularly inside the Siri business.

Investors and consumers alike will take issue with Apple’s tardiness in releasing AI features, which will cast doubt on the company’s credibility.

Not only did Reuters publish the interview, but they also claimed that the long-awaited Siri integration with Apple Intelligence will not be ready until 2026.

If Apple continues to put things off, it could have a domino effect on the upcoming iOS 19 features, delaying those as well. This will likely keep happening until Apple takes action.
