Alec Baldwin’s new reality show, The Baldwins, is already sparking major controversy. The TLC series, which follows the 30 Rock actor, his wife Hilaria, and their seven children, has been slammed as a shameless attempt to profit off the 2021 Rust shooting tragedy.
Attorneys representing Halyna Hutchins’ family have accused Baldwin of monetizing his “increased fame and notoriety” while ignoring the pain of those left behind. They argue the actor is trying to paint himself as the victim rather than take accountability for Hutchins’ death.
“Baldwin has compounded the pain of Halyna’s parents and sister by using this reality show to cash in on the tragedy,” the legal team stated.
Hutchins’ Family Calls Out Baldwin’s ‘Cynical’ Actions
Baldwin, 66, faced involuntary manslaughter charges after Hutchins was fatally shot on the set of Rust when a prop gun discharged a live round. The case was dismissed when a judge ruled that key evidence had not been shared with Baldwin’s defense.
Despite his legal victory, Hutchins’ family remains outraged. They claim The Baldwins is a transparent attempt to control the narrative while earning a massive payday.
“Baldwin does not acknowledge the need to be accountable to Halyna’s parents,” the attorneys said. “Instead, he has chosen to make millions from a reality show while disregarding the fact that his negligence cost their daughter her life.”
Insiders reveal Baldwin negotiated a lucrative deal with TLC, potentially earning $2.4 million for the eight-episode season. His wife and children are also expected to receive substantial payouts.
Critics Say Baldwin’s On-Camera Tears Are ‘Bad Acting’
The backlash intensified after the premiere episode, where Baldwin dramatically broke down in tears, covering his face as he spoke about his struggles.
“I don’t know where I’d be without my wife and kids,” Baldwin said, adding that he was overwhelmed by the situation.
Critics, however, weren’t convinced. A Hollywood insider told RadarOnline, “His weeping on camera isn’t fooling anyone. He’s desperate to make himself look like an innocent victim.”
Meanwhile, legal experts believe Baldwin’s public breakdowns are part of a strategy to rebuild his reputation. However, Hutchins’ family remains firm in their belief that he is prioritizing his career over justice.
With millions on the line and his image at stake, Baldwin’s reality show has only deepened the controversy surrounding him. Whether it helps repair his tarnished reputation or further alienates the public remains to be seen.
