The decision to launch an iPhone 17 Air with a port was taken in order to avoid any repercussions from the European Union, as confirmed by AppleInsider and according to the ‘Power On’ newsletter that was published by Mark Gurman.
The Cupertino giant could have used the word “courage” once more to describe the decision it made regarding the portless iPhone, just as it did when it removed the 3.5mm audio jack from the launch of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, thankfully, sanity prevailed, and the company decided against making this decision. We all have the European Union to thank for this change.
Additionally, there were two prototypes of the iPhone 17 Air that were being tested, with the larger one having a display that measured 6.9 inches.
The variation that Apple plans to mass produce will have a panel that is 6.6 inches in size. Despite the fact that it will have a smaller screen size, it will be more durable than the larger version. After all, a larger and thinner iPhone 17 Air will be more likely to bend, much like the situation with the 13-inch M4 iPad Pro, which snapped with little effort due to its sleek design. This is very similar to the issue with the iPhone 17 Air.
Per WCCFTECH, it is likely that the California-based corporation wants to prevent another issue known as “bendgate,” which it had to go through with the launch of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. As a result, it is searching for a combination that will make the iPhone 17 Air more durable while simultaneously making it thinner.
As you might anticipate, the more streamlined frame will result in some concessions. It has been reported that Apple will skip the ultrawide-angle camera in order to accommodate a larger battery. However, these tradeoffs are required in order to reduce the size of the gadget to such minimal levels.
